Pomegranates

Pomegranates

Pomegranates have become an increasingly important part of Subsole’s portfolio. The popularity of pomegranates reflects its growing reputation among the media and consumers as an ultra‑healthy ‘superfruit’, and because of greater global awareness of a fruit that was once considered regional or even exotic.

The mountain valleys in central-northern Chile have an almost perfect climate for the production of quality pomegranates, place where Subsole has been developing its pomegranate program since 2009.

Today, Subsole exports desirable Israeli pomegranate varieties which can be picked and packed the third week of January, importantly, well before other varieties are ready for harvest.

Production Areas

The ideal weather for pomegranates is a semi‑desert Mediterranean climate. Long, dry summers and consistently high temperatures are key to the maturation of the fruit.

Chile is blessed with an abundance of sun year‑round with zero cloud cover, even in winter, over the mountainous area of IV Region. Being the best country in the world for mega‑telescopes and world‑class observatories, also make Chile ideal for the production of world‑class pomegranates, helping this fruit acquire its intense and uniform color.
